6. Let’s take a quick side-trip from our outlines to address a couple of questions about the Word and its place in the creation of all things. What does Psalm 33:6 have to say on the subject?

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

8. One more outline for today. Take a careful look the Parable of the Sower, found in Luke 8:4–15. Don’t worry about outlining every word. Read through it a couple of times, then outline the main points. And as you work, keep in mind what you are learning about the Word of God and its work in our hearts.

Closely related to the technique of outlining is that of list-making. Are you a list-maker? Many of us have a secret passion for lists—grocery lists, to-do lists, wish lists, honey-do lists, packing lists. We create lists of goals, resolutions, and books we intend to read someday. Lists of friends we owe thank you notes to, errands we need to run this afternoon, things we want to achieve before we’re 40, 50, 60, 70! Why, we’re so attached to our lists, if we’ve gone and done something that isn’t on our list, we’ll add it just to have the satisfaction of crossing it off! Those of you who love listing, you’ll be delighted to know that lists are yet another tool of Bible study.
